Twos Program
The twos program is a twice-a-week drop off class. This is a
time for the very young child to explore new materials, broaden their
environment and be part of a social situation, all with the comfortable feeling
of being part of a small, nurturing class community. Children must be two years
old by September 1.
Threes Program
Children in the 3-year-old class meet four days a week. In
this class they learn to separate from their parents in a supportive
environment. They are exposed to many activities and situations that are geared
to the developing skills of three year olds. Parallel play becomes cooperative
play. Ego-centeredness begins to develop into an awareness of others and their
needs. Attention span for individual and group activities grows. Language
becomes a tool for expression and friendships begin to form. Children must be
three years old by December 31.
Fours Program
The 4-year-old class continues supporting the growth of the
children in the social, emotional, physical and intellectual areas. The class
meets five days a week with two extended days. Children will learn new
concepts, work out solutions and put into practice social skills. Manipulative
materials help reinforce motor skills. Dramatic play encourages children to
deal with emotions. Blocks, puzzles, books, language and art activities provide
the basis for pre-reading and pre-math skills. Positive reinforcement from
parents and teachers allows children to express their creativity and to respect
the ideas of others. This lets each child know that they are important and
their ideas are valued. Children must be four years old by December 31.
Enrichment Activities
As is developmentally appropriate, visitors offer additional
enrichment to the classroom and have included the Darien Nature Center, the
Rowayton Fire Department, Creative Dramatics and Storytelling, yoga,
collaborative art projects with local artists and storytelling by children’s
authors. The Fours Program continues its
learning outside the classroom with field trips to enriching local venues
including museums, newspaper organizations, post offices, restaurants, farms and
nature centers.
Creative Art
At CCNS the value is in the
process and the experience rather than the end product. Children do not bring
home cookie cutter art projects and when you walk into the classrooms you will
never see 16 school buses that all look alike. We expose children to beautiful
and interesting art materials that spark their curiosities and engage their
imaginations. As a parent assistant you will also get to explore the amazing
art that is a signature of our creative school.
