Afternoon Dream by featured artist Michael Patterson
48 x 60 acrylic on canvas
Attracting professional artists and art buyers from all over the Northeast, the 47th Annual Art Show will include outstanding works by established and emerging artists. The French Salon style Art Show offers one of the biggest and most diverse selections of original art for sale in Fairfield County, bringing in close to two hundred thousand dollars in sales over a four day period.
Join us for our 47th Annual Art Show June 11-14, 2009. CCNS will once again convert the 'little red schoolhouse in Rowayton' into a professional art gallery where over 70 new and returning artists will be represented.
This year’s featured artist is Michael Patterson who was born in Hudson NY into a family of painters. Howard Ashman Patterson, his grandfather, was an established American painter. Michael graduated from Suny Purchase with honors in painting, printmaking and sculpture. He has been painting for 35 years, doing extensive traveling for inspiration. Having lived in France for several years, Michael has shown his work in Europe and the US, primarily in the Northeast.
Through the years his work has encompassed many styles and series of subjects. He is drawn to many of the same things visually that he was drawn to years ago...rainy city streets, sun on sparkling waters, faces, hands, clouds, sky, dappled sunlight, people at the beach, musicians and emotions in everyday people.
In addition to painting, Michael has returned to creating sculptures in stone and clay, both figurative and abstract. Michael has enjoyed great success in his career with his work being held in private and corporate collections in the US and Europe. His home and studio are on the Shepaug River in Roxbury, CT where he lives with his wife Jessyka.
“I am thrilled to be selected as this year’s featured artist,” said Patterson. “I have been involved in the CCNS Art Show for many years and love the unique combination of venue, clientele and school that benefits from such a large and talented group of local artists.”
'An art show committee made up entirely of parent volunteers collects, hangs and entertains art patrons with this labor of love that begins each school year. Even if you are just browsing… it’s a weekend worth marking on your calendar.'
Community Cooperative Nursery School was founded in 1953, and remains one of the few true cooperative preschools in Connecticut. The school was founded by a group of parents who wanted to give their children a creative environment with professional guidance where they could know all racial, religious and economic groups. A strong commitment to a scholarship program through fundraising has been a tradition. Parent participation, though an economic necessity, remains the heart of the school, benefiting all involved.
